AGM and talk 2025
CBA South-East 2025 AGM & Lecture – Tuesday 25 March 2025 at 19:00 – The Stiances Archaeological Project
CBA Southeast invite you to the forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM). Have the chance to hear about the status of the organisation, to vote on the motions put forward, and have a say. The AGM will be held online via Zoom. The evening will start with a talk on a project (details below) that CBASE has financially supported on a number of occasions. Once the talk and any questions are concluded (approx. 19:45), the main AGM business will commence.
To be able to join us on the evening, you will need to register in advance at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/162C7x9KQ4qLvUcS15Xdxg
Simon Stevens (Archaeology South East) will present his ongoing Stiances Archaeological Project which provides pupils at Newick Primary School (Sussex) with an all-to-rare opportunity to become involved with an archaeological ‘dig’. Since 2009, the project on a field called ‘Little Stiances’ has seen geophysical and topographic surveys and the targeting of hand-dug test-pits, revealing an assortment of post-medieval finds from the 15th to the 19th centuries, alongside a thin scatter of Mesolithic flint-work.
This project has been funded in part by CBA Southeast and in 2022 was awarded the ‘Marsh Award for Youth Archaeology Project’ by the Council for British Archaeology.

CBA SE Grants News
From August 2022 there was a change to the reviewing of CBA South East Grant applications. New applications will now be considered only at meetings held twice a year, in October and April. Applications should be submitted to the CBASE by either the 1st October or 1st April for consideration.
There is no change to the type of applications that can be submitted. All applications will be considered by the CBA South East committee.
Over the past 24 years the CBA South East has given grants to a variety of projects. Community and school projects, along with the Young Archaeologists Club (YAC), have been well supported. Other grants have been given towards excavations, where volunteers and training has been an important aspect. The publication of reports and help with specialist research has also benefited from CBASE support. Applications which have not been supported include help with student fees and a study tour of the Mediterranean.

AGM 2024
Our AGM was held on Tuesday 13th February at 19:00, following a presentation by Trevor Creighton, Project Archaeologist at Butser Ancient Farm, and Sue Webber, who has also worked on projects there, with the title “Installing a mosaic floor at Butser Ancient Farm”, about the project to install a mosaic floor at the Butser Ancient Farm’s Sparsholt Villa reconstruction. The mosaic was closely based upon the original Sparsholt reception room mosaic.
Proposed changes to our Constitution, the Chair’s report and Treasurer statement were all accepted. The acceptance of Trustee positions was equally proposed and approved (see the revised Committee list).
